Austin Independent School District (AISD) is a school district based in the city of Austin, Texas, United States. Established in 1881, [ 2 ] the district serves most of the City of Austin, the neighboring municipalities of Sunset Valley and San Leanna , and unincorporated areas in Travis County (including Manchaca ).
Northwest Hills is located on the northwestern side of Austin. [2] The neighborhood is sometimes referred to as Far West after its main street, Far West Boulevard, [3] [4] which stretches from Mopac on the east and goes deep into the residential homes on the west prior to reaching the Ladera Norte street, close to Capital of Texas Highway. When the City of Austin wanted to build Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in an area that housed Del Valle's high school and three elementary schools, voters approved a $38.1 million bond to build the schools in a new location. Due to the influx of new apartments and condominiums, by 2009, according to Chuck Lindell of the Austin American-Statesman, the area may have had over 17,000 residents. As of 2009 many young professionals, faculty members of the University of Texas at Austin , and retirees live in West Campus. [ 7 ]
It was identical to the Fulmore Middle School in South Austin, which would later become Lively Middle School. [10] The Baker School was designed by the architectural firm Endress & Walsh and their associate Roy L. Thomas. [7] The school was dedicated on November 28, 1911, as a segregated elementary school for white children living in Hyde Park. [7]
