Here's my setup: Roku connected to Vizio tv via HDMI Vizio TV connected to Onkyo receiver via optical. my TV is capable of transcoding dolby digital plus to just dolby digital. This setup works fine with the Roku 3, but does not work with the express 4k. Volume leveling is off and also the audio settings are same on both the Roku players.

Re: roku express 4k no 5ghz connection. To further clarify its the Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) on the 5 Ghz spectrum that are causing the issues. Roku and a number of other devices that claim to be 802.11ac compliant still don't play nice with those. Just like @ahumanperson said, DO NOT USE 5Ghz channels 52-140.
Just received a Roku 4K Express Plus from Roku. Took out my neighbor's older Express Plus and installed the new Express Plus 4K. The Rokus are tied to a received by an HDMI cable. No audio comes from the new 4K but I can unplug the 4K and install the old Roku and there is audio. Uninstall the old and install the new, no audio.

Yes, the Express 4K+ should work just fine on any TV that supports 1080p on its HDMI port. HDCP 2.2 is backwards compatible with previous versions, and shouldn't cause any issues. Dan.
