The province of Highland Papua (Provinsi Papua Pegunungan) in Indonesia is divided into eight kabupaten which in turn are divided administratively into districts, known as distrik under the law of 2001 on "special autonomy for Papua province".

It covers an area of 6,077.4 km 2, and had a population of 148,522 at the 2010 Census [2] and 196,399 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 201,461. [1] The administrative centre is the town of Tiom.
As created, Jayawijaya Regency covered an area coincident with the whole of what in 2022 became Highland Papua Province. However, on 11 December 2002 three new Regencies - Bintang Mountains Regency (Kabupaten Pegunungan Bintang), Tolikara Regency, and Yahukimo Regency - were created from parts of Jayawijaya Regency.
