Otterville is located on routes A and BB three-quarters of a mile north of the county line and U.S. Route 50. The community is on the Long Branch tributary to the Lamine River and the Lamine River Conservation Area which is one mile east of the town. Clifton City is about 4.5 miles to the north on route BB.
The Hamilton Primary School is a historic school building located 200 feet (61 m) on 107 E. Main Street in Otterville, Illinois. The two-story Italianate building was constructed in 1873 using limestone from the original school building, which was built in 1835.

Grain Valley left the conference at the end of the 2017-18 school year and joined the Suburban Kansas City Conference. Warrensburg replaced Grain Valley. Center and Clinton were added beginning in the 2020-21 school year. Excelsior Springs departed after the 2021-22 school year and followed Grain Valley to the Suburban Kansas City Conference.

Otterville is the home of the first free integrated school in the United States, the Hamilton Primary School, located on Main Street. [8] In 1834, Dr. Silas Hamilton, a local physician, left $4,000 for the construction and operation of a building for educational and religious purposes.
