Frances was born in 1384 in Rome to a wealthy and aristocratic couple, Paolo Bussa and Iacobella dei Roffredeschi, in the up-and-coming district of Parione and christened in the nearby Church of St. Agnes on the famed Piazza Navona. [1]

Santa Maria Liberatrice a Monte Testaccio was built in 1908 to serve the new suburb at Monte Testaccio, and put in the care of the Salesian Order and the Oblates of St. Frances of Rome. [6] It took its title and much of its artwork from the old church of Santa Maria Liberatrice in the Forum. [7]
By 1853, the school changed its name from the Oblate School for Colored Girls to the Saint Frances School for Colored Girls, named after St. Frances of Rome (1384–1440). The paintings in the lunettes of the vaults (1315–20) depict the Triumph of St Francis and three allegories of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity by the so-called Maestro delle Vele (Master of the Assisi vaults), a pupil of Giotto (about 1330). The stained glass windows in this lower basilica are attributed to Giovanni di Bonino and his workshop.

The confessio of Santa Francesca Romana is the confessio, the enclosed area below the altar, of the Basilica of Santa Francesca Romana in Rome. It was built between 1638 and 1649 to a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, including a bronze sculptural group of St Frances and the angel.
