The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (UW–Whitewater or UWW) is a public university in Whitewater, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the University of Wisconsin System . As of Fall 2024, the university offers 47 undergraduate majors and 13 graduate programs and enrolls approximately 11,000 students. [ 3 ]
The university opened in the fall of 1968, [4] as a freshman-sophomore campus as part of the University of Wisconsin Colleges system. [5] The university is jointly owned by the UW system, Sauk County, and City of Baraboo. [6] It was originally designed for 300 students. [7]
After the 1971 merger of the University of Wisconsin System with the Wisconsin State Universities System to form the present-day UW System, the freshman-sophomore centers became a separate institution of the newly created system known as the University of Wisconsin Centers. [2] The centers became known as University of Wisconsin Colleges in 1997.

The University of Wisconsin System has had a presence in Manitowoc since 1933, when 26 students enrolled in a UW English class offered at the Vocational School located downtown on Clark Street. In July 2018 the UW System was restructured so that UW–Manitowoc became a UW–Green Bay campus.
