The international border states are those states in the U.S. that border either the Bahamas, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, or Russia. With a total of eighteen of such states, thirteen (including Alaska) lie on the U.S.–Canada border, four lie on the U.S.–Mexico border, and one has maritime borders with Cuba and The Bahamas.

A total of 37 municipalities and 23 counties, spread across 6 Mexican and 4 American states, are located on the border. All entities are listed geographically from west to east.
The Mexico–United States border extends 3,145 kilometers (1,954 miles), in addition to the maritime boundaries of 29 km (18 mi) into the Pacific Ocean and 19 km (12 mi) into the Gulf of Mexico. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] It is the tenth-longest border between two countries in the world.
