20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Tears for Fears is a compilation album by the English pop rock band Tears for Fears released by Mercury Records in the US and Canada only in 2000.
[2] 20th Century Masters uses eight of the ten songs from Parliament's Greatest Hits (1984), and is essentially an update of that collection. Album versions of the songs "Up for the Down Stroke"; "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" and "Aqua Boogie" are also used in place of the edited versions used on Greatest Hits .
William Ruhlmann of AllMusic stated that people likely didn't know why UMG found it necessary to release the album seeing as the A Decade of Hits 1969–1979 album already had been released, going on to state that "the new 11-track album shares nine selections with the earlier 16-track one."
AllMusic reviewer Heather Phares said that the album "condenses the group's hits into an 11-song best-of-the-best compilation" and also states that the album "may please casual fans that lack the patience for Gold's 19 tracks". [1]
In a review for the reissue written by Steve Leggett for AllMusic, he stated that it "collects a dozen of the band's early to mid-period hits" and that "there’s a lot more to the Who than just the group’s hits -- 12 tracks is really just a tease, although it's a fun tease".

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic says The Mamas & the Papas 20th Century Masters — The Millennium Collection is "an irresistible 11-song summary of their MCA recordings." While it may be missing "a couple of noteworthy songs", he suggests "this is an excellent introduction for neophytes and a great sampler for casual fans."
