An acceptable use policy (AUP) (also acceptable usage policy or fair use policy (FUP)) is a set of rules applied by the owner, creator, possessor or administrator of a computer network, website, or service that restricts the ways in which the network, website or system may be used and sets guidelines as to how it should be used.
This template should be used on the description page of non-free images that do not fall into one of the blanket acceptable non-free content categories. fair-use images can only be used in articles (not e.g. talk pages or user pages), as specified in the image's fair-use rationale; and; fair-use images become subject to deletion if not actually used in an article—see Wikipedia:Fair use § Policy and Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion § Images/Media.
