Pine Valley is about a 50-mile (80 km) long valley. The valley narrows in the south to about 3 miles (4.8 km) wide, [4] where Pine Valley Wash originates. The valley is a north-south valley, but the southern 10 miles (16 km) turns southeasterly, paralleling a mountain ridgeline stretch of the Indian Springs Range bordered to the west.

Pine Valley is a community and census-designated place (CDP) in the Cuyamaca Mountains of the Mountain Empire area, in southeastern San Diego County, California. The population was 1,510 at the 2010 census, up from 1,501 at the 2000 census .
It is on the west side of the valley of Catharine Creek, a northward-flowing tributary of Seneca Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. New York State Route 14 passes through the center of Pine Valley, leading south 4 miles (6 km) to Horseheads and 10 miles (16 km) to downtown Elmira.
