The town of Camaligan is a known archeological site.In 2016 to 2017, hundreds of artifacts, including shells, jar fragments, tools, other deposits, pig bones, deer bones, stingray cartilage, shark cartilage, and at least fifteen (15) pre-colonial human remains, were found in the area, which marked a revolutionary phase in Bicol archaeology.
The park is a joint project of Department of Tourism Region V and the Local Government Unit of Camaligan, Camarines Sur under the Bottom-Up Budgeting Program for the year 2015. [4] In 2014, it was planned only to be the docking site of the Camaligan River Cruise or M/B Camaligan, thus, first naming the park as Camaligan River Cruise Park. [5]

Camaligan was under the ecclesiastical and civil jurisdiction of Nueva Caceres (now Naga City) for almost two centuries, from year 1578 to 1775. [1]In the year 1775, the town became an independent political unit under the administration of Bishop Domingo Ollantes of Nueva Caceres. [8]
