Gaura Parva is a lunar festival. The date of the festival is calculated by the official astrological committee (Panchang Samiti) every year. The occurrence of festival usually falls in the month of either August or September according to Gregorian calendar and either Shrawan or Bhadra month according to Nepali calendar.

Gaura Purnima is a Vaishnava festival that celebrates the birth of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534), who founded Gaudiya Vaishnavism. It occurs on the purnima (full moon day) in the Hindu month Phalguna, usually falling in March or April. [1] Gaura Purnima means "Golden Full Moon", a reference to Chaitanya.
On the event of the Gaura festival, it is believed that the god Mahesh (Shiva) was married to the goddess Gaura (Parvati). In the day of Panchami, Biruda is kept with water in a copper pot to make them wet. The next day the mixture is washed and water is replaced with full customs and worship of Goddess Gaura. Next day this process recontinues.
