Marpessa Dawn (January 3, 1934 – August 25, 2008), also known as Gypsy Marpessa Dawn Menor, was an American-French actress, as well as a singer and dancer. She is best remembered for her role in the film Black Orpheus (1959).
Marpessa Dawn was not from Brazil, but was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. [ 13 ] Breno Mello was a soccer player with no acting experience at the time he was cast as Orfeu. [ 14 ]

Camus married one of the stars of Orfeu Negro, Marpessa Dawn, but they divorced shortly thereafter. He then married another actress from Orfeu Negro, Lourdes de Oliveira. [9] Camus and de Oliveira have two children, including the writer Jean-Christophe Camus. [9] [10]
