The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Museum, New Delhi, on 17 December 2020 following a virtual summit between India and Bangladesh, aimed at facilitating knowledge-sharing between the two museums on training, the conservation of fabrics and the curation of exhibits.
On 11 April 1994, Sheikh Hasina established the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust. On 6 September 1994, Hasina handed over the deed of Bangabandhu Bhaban, the personal residence to Bangabandhu Memorial Trust. The trust turned Bangabandhu Bhaban in to a museum, Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. The first head of the museum was A. F. Salahuddin Ahmed.
Bangabandhu's birthday is a public holiday throughout Bangladesh, and programs were organized in 2019 (including in Tungipara, his birthplace). The president and prime minister paid their respects at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum (his former residence) in Dhaka and at his mausoleum in Tungipara.

Ahmed served as a platoon commander for the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, before studying art, and his experiences in the war are clearly reflected in his artwork. He was member of guerilla team Crack Platoon [7] He has painted numerous scenes from the war (e.g. the Killing of the Intellectuals) as well as portraits of key figures such as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In 1994, architect Ehsan Khan, Ishtiaq Zahir and Iqbal Habib were commissioned to convert Bangabandhu's residence in Dhaka into a museum. After they completed the work in 1995, Sheikh Hasina asked them to build a mausoleum complex for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.
In 15 November 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Toshkhana museum at Topkhana road near the Bangabandhu Military Museum. [6] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that during the Bangladesh Nationalist government term several gifts were destroyed because they had her name and the boat symbol; the museum will held preserve the gifts which are property of the state.
