Westgate-on-Sea is a seaside town and civil parish on the north-east coast of Kent, England. It is within the Thanet local government district and borders the larger seaside resort of Margate . Its two sandy beaches have remained a popular tourist attraction since the town's development in the 1860s from a small farming community.

John Hawtrey's son, Edward, removed the school to Westgate-on-Sea early in 1883. [1] After Edward Hawtrey died in 1916, the name of the school was changed to Hawtreys. The school buildings were requisitioned during the Second World War and the school moved to Oswestry in Shropshire, to the home of Sir William Wynn-Williams.
The Carlton Cinema, in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent, England dates from 1910. The extension of the railway into East Kent in 1871 led to the creation of a number of seaside resorts along the Kent coast to the west of Margate. Westgate-on-Sea was built in the 1870 by the London-based developers Corbett & McClymont.
Westgate-on-Sea railway station is on the Chatham Main Line in England, serving the town of Westgate-on-Sea, Kent. It is 72 miles 35 chains (116.6 km) down the line from London Victoria and is situated between Birchington-on-Sea and Margate. The station and all trains that serve the station are operated by Southeastern.
North Thanet contained the northern and western parts of Thanet District (most of Margate, apart from the Cliftonville area), Westgate-on-Sea, Birchington-on-Sea, and several villages including Acol, St Nicholas-at-Wade, Minster, Manston, Monkton and Sarre) as well as the town of Herne Bay in the City of Canterbury district.
