The Kannada Sahitya Sammelana (lit. ' Kannada Literature Conference ' ) is the premier gathering of writers, poets and Kannadigas . It is held with the aim of preserving and developing the Kannada language , its literature, art, culture and music.
Siddalingaiah (1954 in Magadi, Bangalore – 11 June 2021), was an Indian poet, playwright, and Dalit activist, writing in the Kannada language. He is credited with starting the Dalit-Bandaya movement in Kannada and with starting the genre of Dalit writing. He is one of the founders of the Dalita Sangharsh Samiti along with B. Krishnappa.
It strives to promote Kannada language through publishing books, organising literary seminars and promoting research projects. It also organises an annual conference on Kannada literature called Kannada Sahithya Sammelana (Kannada Literary Meet). The current president of the parishat is Dr. Mahesh joshi.
Yakshagana (lit. "Songs of the demi-gods") is a composite folk-dance-drama or folk theater of southern India which combines literature, music, dance and painting. The best-known forms of this art, written in the Kannada language, are from the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi district, Uttara Kannada and to some extent from the Shimoga district of modern Karnataka.
Norbert D'Souza [1] (6 June 1937 – 5 January 2025) was an Indian writer in the Kannada language. He was the President of 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Madikeri in the year 2014. [ 2 ]

Yakshagana is not folk art but a popular traditional theatre of India performed in coastal and malenadu regions which is a blend of dance, music, songs, scholarly dialogue and colourful costumes. The word means "celestial music", and the dance drama is performed during the night (usually after the winter crop has been harvested).
