New Mexican literature includes the modern American literature of the U.S state of New Mexico, along with its former Santa Fe de Nuevo México and New Mexico territories. It is influential in English language and Spanish language literatures, and most of its history has been influenced by Native American literature, Spanish literature, Mexican literature, and English literature.
Michael McGarrity (born 1940) is a New Mexican author and former law enforcement officer. He has written a dozen crime novels set in New Mexico and the American West trilogy, historical novels also set in New Mexico consisting of Hard Country, Backlands and The Last Ranch. Rudolfo Anaya (October 30, 1937 – June 28, 2020) was an American author. Noted for his 1972 novel Bless Me, Ultima, Anaya was considered one of the founders of the canon of contemporary Chicano and New Mexican literature.
Her paternal great-grandfather was awarded the title to the Las Vegas Grandes land grant in 1823. [3] She was also related to the second Governor of New Mexico, Ezequiel Cabeza de Baca, who was her uncle. [3] Cabeza de Baca was born in and lived part of her life Las Vegas, New Mexico. [4] She also grew up on a ranch in La Liendre. [5]
