The Cumberland Valley School District is a large, rural and suburban public school district located in Central Pennsylvania. It covers Hampden Township, Monroe Township, Middlesex Township and Silver Spring Township in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. According to 2000 federal census data, it served a resident population of 46,926.
The earliest known school in the district was the Denny School, opened in 1796 in Middlesex Township. The current configuration of the district was formed in 1960 when the Mars and Valencia Boroughs combined with Adams and Middlesex Townships to form the Mars Area School District. The Mars Area School District consists of five schools.
The original school, Abbotsfield School for Boys, was established on Clifton Gardens in 1953. The Abbotsfield and Swakeleys schools consisted of fourteen one- to two-storey blocks dating from the 1950s to 2005 and shared one site. The old school was renamed on 20 July 2018 and was relaunched as co-educational under the name Oak Wood School. [2]

The schools below were built under the sub-district system and taken over by the Board of Public Education in 1911. [1] [2] Some sub-districts gave unique names to each school, while others used numbered schools (e.g. Colfax No. 1). The school board renamed all of the numbered schools in 1912.
