The kilogram-force (kgf or kg F), or kilopond (kp, from Latin: pondus, lit. 'weight'), is a non-standard gravitational metric unit of force . It is not accepted for use with the International System of Units (SI) [ 1 ] and is deprecated for most uses.
A newton is defined as 1 kg⋅m/s 2 (it is a named derived unit defined in terms of the SI base units). [1]: 137 One newton is, therefore, the force needed to accelerate one kilogram of mass at the rate of one metre per second squared in the direction of the applied force.
The pound-force has a metric counterpart, less commonly used than the newton: the kilogram-force (kgf) (sometimes kilopond), is the force exerted by standard gravity on one kilogram of mass. The kilogram-force leads to an alternate, but rarely used unit of mass: the metric slug (sometimes mug or hyl) is that mass that accelerates at 1 m·s −2 ...
Nevertheless, one object will always weigh more than another with less mass if both are subject to the same gravity (i.e. the same gravitational field strength). In scientific contexts, mass is the amount of "matter" in an object (though "matter" may be difficult to define), but weight is the force exerted on an object's matter by gravity. [1]
The song "Auld Lang Syne" comes from a Robert Burns poem. Burns was the national poet of Scotland and wrote the poem in 1788, but it wasn't published until 1799—three years after his death.
For example, in English and French, even when the unit is named after a person and its symbol begins with a capital letter, the unit name in running text should start with a lowercase letter (e.g., newton, hertz, pascal) and is capitalised only at the beginning of a sentence and in headings and publication titles.
Even most of Newton-John’s fans might have missed the fact that she covered the Divinyls’ saucy alt-pop standard. That band’s hit ’90s original was a song of true double-entendres ...
Cam Newton suffered from hit piece-level slander as a draft prospect. It's a shame he can't see that he's doing the same thing to women. Why Cam Newton’s words about women hurt beyond his right ...
