Badminton was introduced to Bangladesh in the 1900s by the British. At the time, the sport was only played throughout urban areas. [ 2 ] In 1972, the Bangladesh Badminton Federation was formed and the sport started to gain popularity.
Bangladesh Badminton Federation is the national organization governing the sport of badminton in Bangladesh. As of 2017, Abdul Malek is the president of the federation. Md. Alamgir Hossain has been the general secretary since 2022, and Moshiur Rahman has been the chief executive officer since 2018.
The Bangladesh International is an international badminton tournament held in Dhaka, Bangladesh and organized by the Bangladesh Badminton Federation. The tournament was established in June 2002 and was part of the Asian Satellite. [ 1 ]
The name derives from the Duke of Beaufort's Badminton House in Gloucestershire, [5] but why or when remains unclear. [citation needed] As early as 1860, a London toy dealer named Isaac Spratt published a booklet entitled Badminton Battledore – A New Game, but no copy is known to have survived. [6]

In 2005 she represented Bangladesh in Asian Badminton Confederation Championship. [3] She participated in the Bajaj Discover Nepal International Series 2008 Badminton Championship in the mixed doubles event with fellow Bangladeshi Abdul Hannan. They lost to Balram Thapa and Pooja Shrestha of Nepal in the opening day of the tournament. [4]
Badminton at the 2010 South Asian Games was held in Wooden-Floor Gymnasium in Dhaka, Bangladesh between 30 January and 4 February 2010. The badminton programme in 2010 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions alongside men's and women's team events.
