Železná Ruda is located about 29 km (18 mi) south of Klatovy and 66 km (41 mi) south of Plzeň, on the border with Germany. It lies in a wild mountainous terrain of the Bohemian Forest . The town is surrounded with thick coniferous woods.
Palazzo Maffei is a historical palace in Verona, northern Italy, on the north-western side of Piazza delle Erbe. A building existed in the current location in the 15th century, but on 20 December 1469 the nobleman Marcantonio Maffei decided to expand it by adding a third floor. Construction works ended only in 1668.

It is one of the two stations serving central Verona; the other station, Verona Porta Vescovo, is located at the east of the city. It is situated at Piazzale XXV Aprile ("25 April") at the south of the city centre. The station is a 20-minute walk (approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi)) or 10-minute bus ride from Arena di Verona.

In December 2006 the former name of the Czech part of the station, Železná Ruda, was officially changed to Železná Ruda-Alžbětín. In the 2007/08 annual timetable, trains ran hourly from Plattling to Bayerisch Eisenstein and some continued as far as Špičák.
