Oak Island Growth since 1999. Oak Island is located in southeastern Brunswick County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.9 square miles (51.6 km 2), of which 18.5 square miles (48.0 km 2) is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km 2) (7.02%) is water.
The uninhabited island is mostly forested in pine and birch trees and the island is now part of Acadia National Park. There are walking trails on the island. A sand and gravel bar exposed only a couple of hours at low tide connects Bar Island to Bridge Street in Bar Harbor. At low tide visitors often walk across, or park cars on the exposed bar.
The OBI East was at 239 E Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays. The property underwent extensive renovations between 2018 and 2022 and was reopened as the Canoe Place Inn and Cottages with 20 rooms, 5 cottages, restaurant, bar and a 350 banquet room.
