Past SR 718, SR 55 narrows down to two lanes, and enters into a primarily residential portion of Troy along West Market Street. SR 55 meets South Market Street, the former routing of US 25, and turns northeasterly toward the central business district. Once into downtown Troy, SR 55 intersects SR 41 at a traffic circle in Public Square. [2]
The three state routes would turn onto Valley Street where SR 202 split off the concurrency at Troy Street, SR 4 at the ramps to the freeway, SR 201 continuing on the route it travels today. [ 12 ] [ 13 ] The truncation of SR 201 occurred at the same time as the relocation of SR 4 out of Downtown Dayton onto the US 35 and Interstate 75 freeways.

In 2021, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) awarded the city of Dayton $4.74 million to place SR 48 (North Main Street) on a "road diet".Dayton, ODOT District 7 and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission had hired the engineering firm Burgess & Niple to study the roadway from Great Miami Boulevard in Dayton north to Shiloh Springs Road in Harrison Township, Montgomery County.
