Soon after, the Houston Folklore Society (later known as the Houston Folklore and Music Society) was founded by John Alan Lomax Jr., Ed Badeaux, Harold V. Hans Graf was the music director of the orchestra from 2001 to 2013, the longest tenure of any Houston Symphony music director.
