Dalton is a city and the county seat of Whitfield County, Georgia, United States. [5] It is also the principal city of the Dalton Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Murray and Whitfield counties. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 34,417 people; the city's metro area was 124,837.

Whitfield County is a county in the Northwest region of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census shows a population of 102,864. [1] The county seat is Dalton. [2] The county was created on December 30, 1851, and named after George Whitefield, Methodist evangelist. [3] The "e" was omitted to reflect the pronunciation of his name.
