A pure tone audiometry hearing test is the gold standard for evaluation of hearing loss or disability. [medical citation needed] Other types of hearing tests also generate graphs or tables of results that may be loosely called 'audiograms', but the term is universally used to refer to the result of a pure tone audiometry hearing test.
Audiological exam. Audiology (from Latin audīre, "to hear"; and from Greek branch of learning -λογία, -logia) is a branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders. [1] [2] Audiologists treat those with hearing loss and proactively prevent related damage. [3]
A hearing test provides an evaluation of the sensitivity of a person's sense of hearing and is most often performed by an audiologist using an audiometer. An audiometer is used to determine a person's hearing sensitivity at different frequencies. There are other hearing tests as well, e.g., Weber test and Rinne test.
This prevents the non-test ear from detecting the test signal presented to the test ear. The threshold of the test ear is measured at the same time as presenting the masking noise to the non-test ear. Thus, thresholds obtained when masking has been applied, provide an accurate representation of the true hearing threshold level of the test ear. [13]
Visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA) is a key behavioural test for evaluating hearing in young children. [1] [2] First introduced by Liden and Kankkunen in 1969, VRA is a good indicator of how responsive a child is to sound and speech and whether the child is developing awareness to sound as expected.
REAT systems rely on the subjective response of the person being tested to determine auditory thresholds much like a hearing test where the subject indicates when sound is heard at various frequencies. According to the acoustic standards, REAT testing of hearing protection devices must be tested in an acoustic chamber with a diffuse sound field.

Real ear measurement is the measurement of sound pressure level in a patient's ear canal developed when a hearing aid is worn. It is measured with the use of a silicone probe tube inserted in the canal connected to a microphone outside the ear and is done to verify that the hearing aid is providing suitable amplification for a patient's hearing loss.
