This is a list of law enforcement agencies in the state of New Jersey. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics' 2018 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies, the state had 507 law enforcement agencies employing 30,261 sworn police officers, about 341 for each 100,000 residents.
The code is one example of police corruption and misconduct. Officers who engaged in discriminatory arrests, physical or verbal harassment, and selective enforcement of the law are considered to be corrupt, while officers who follow the code may participate in some of these acts during their careers for personal matters or in order to protect or support fellow officers.
