The convict cichlid (Amatitlania nigrofasciata) is a fish species from the family Cichlidae, native to Central America, [3] also known as the zebra cichlid. [4] Convict cichlids are popular aquarium fish [ 3 ] and have also been the subject of numerous studies on fish behaviour.
The blue parrotfish has a wide range and is abundant in much of that range, some of which are in marine conservation areas. Although larger individuals are targeted by fishermen, the population of this fish seems to be stable overall. For these reasons, the IUCN has listed this fish as being of "Least Concern". [1]

The Blood Parrot Cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus × Vieja melanurus), or parrot cichlid, is a hybrid species of fish in the family Cichlidae. [1] The fish was first bred in Taiwan around 1986. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Blood parrots should not be confused with other parrot cichlids or salt water parrotfish (family Scaridae). [ 4 ]
The convict cichlid has sometimes been placed within the genus Cryptoheros as well, but is now considered a member of the genus Amatitlania. [3] [4] Several other species such as Amatitlania septemfasciata and Amatitlania sajica had also once been included within Cryptoheros.
