The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is a national exam for students in grades 8-12. It's used to shortlist students for HBCSE's Mathematical Olympiad program. Students must be under 20 years old by June 30 of the IMO year and cannot have passed Class 12.

Different aspects of solving mathematical problems are studied and revealed: combinatorics, logics, structural arrangement and proofs. All problems are evaluated from 7 points. Top participants obtain certificates of 3 degrees ("1st", "2nd" and "3rd diploma") and often additional "commendable certificates".
The content ranges from extremely difficult algebra and pre-calculus problems to problems in branches of mathematics not conventionally covered in secondary or high school and often not at university level either, such as projective and complex geometry, functional equations, combinatorics, and well-grounded number theory, of which extensive knowledge of theorems is required.
The top three students for each school section will receive respectively a gold, silver, or bronze Certificate for Outstanding Achievement. An AMC 8 Honor Roll Certificate is given to all high scoring students. An AMC 8 Merit Certificate is given to high scoring students who are in 6th grade or below.
Next 40% get Certificate of Merit. Remaining 35% get Certificate of Qualification or Participation. Top 40 get a gold medal, the next 60 a silver medal, the next 100 a bronze medal. All medalists receive a book prize. Only questions 11-16 are considered for medals
