Deltora Quest 2 (known in North America as Deltora Shadowlands) is a series of children’s fantasy books, written by Australian author Emily Rodda.It follows the adventures of three companions as they journey outside the magical land of Deltora to rescue the many prisoners held captive by the evil Shadow Lord.

For the next sixteen years, Barda disguised himself as a beggar so as to discover information vital to the quest. He also became the bodyguard of Endon and Sharn's child Lief, albeit without the semi-arrogant Lief's knowledge thereof. Lief: Lief is the main character of the series.As a child Lief roamed the streets of Del, sharpening his wits and gaining him the skills needed for his future quests. On his sixteenth birthday it is revealed to him that he must begin a dangerous quest to find the lost gems of the Belt of Deltora.
He is named after the character "Prince Dorian" from the cartoon series The Mighty Hercules, which ran from 1962 to 1966. [6] Gaider explained in an interview that Dorian's sexuality was a natural evolution as the character of a genuinely good mage took shape; after that it was about rounding out the other facets of Dorian as a character.
