Greater San Antonio has a number of communities spread out across several counties and regions. To the north of New Braunfels lies San Marcos, the county seat of Hays County, which similarly experienced substantial job growth throughout the same decade. Between 2008 and 2018, the number of jobs in San Marcos increased by 44%, and its labor force expanded by 45% over the corresponding period. [ 38 ]

Subsequently, VIA purchased transit assets from the City of San Antonio and began operations in March 1978, taking its name from the Latin word for "road".
