In 1884 David D. Rogers bought 47 acres (190,000 m 2) of land on the beach peninsula, east of Daytona, stretching from present-day Main Street on the north to Harvey Street on the south, and from the Atlantic Ocean on the east, to Pinewood Cemetery on the west. Rogers divided the property into lots for sale and named the development Seabreeze.
The city of Daytona Beach Shores is located on a barrier island along the Atlantic Ocean. The other side of the island (the west side) is bordered by the Halifax River lagoon, part of the Intracoastal Waterway. The city is bordered on the north by Daytona Beach and on the south by Wilbur-by-the-Sea, and Port Orange.

The Daytona Beach Sun Devils of the defunct Sunshine Hockey League played hockey games at the Ocean Center from 1992 to 1995. In 1995, the team and league changed names to the Daytona Beach Breakers, playing in the Southern Hockey League. After the 1995-96 season both the team and the league folded.
Ellinor Village was the largest family resort in Florida in the 1940s and 1950s. It was built in Ormond Beach, Florida, by Byron Ellinor and his brother Merrill, and comprised 660 “cottages” and apartments. [1] Ellinor Village resort opened on May 1, 1949, with triplexes, duplexes and single-family units for rent.
