Takoradi Technical University was established as a government technical institute in 1954 and became part of the State Tertiary Education System. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] Later, after the passage of the Polytechnic Law of 1992 (PNDCL 321), it was replaced by the Polytechnics Law (Act 745) in 2007. [ 1 ]
Takoradi Technical Institute is a mixed-sex school found in Takoradi.The school was established in 1982 with the collaboration of the Ghanaian Government and German Government Support for Technical Cooperation. [1] The school is popular for its facilities which are used to train and enhance the technical skills of the students.
The School was founded on 9 August 1909 in Accra [5] [6] as Accra Technical School and later changed to Government Technical School. It moved to its current site in Takoradi in 1939. [ 7 ] In 1953, the name was changed to Government Secondary Technical School , and in 1970, it was given its current name. [ 8 ]
Joseph Cudjoe started his career as a Mathematics Teacher at the Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School from January 1995 to October 1995. Cudjoe worked as a lecturer at the Takoradi Technical University from 1995 to 2000. He later joined Eno International, LLC where he worked as a Financial Analysis & Planning Manager from 2000 to 2001.

In 1961, the university was changed to the Tarkwa School of Mines to help train manpower for the mining industry in Ghana. UMaT became a faculty of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1976.
