Kirklin is the son of the late heart surgery pioneer John W. Kirklin. [1] He graduated from Ohio State University in 1969, where he was an All-American diver. [9] [10] He received his MD from Harvard Medical School in 1973 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha academic honor society.
Born in Brooklyn New York, he spent his entire career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, arriving as a resident in 1967, and retiring in 2006. [1] During his career he was known as a skillful surgeon who performed a very high volume (more than 30,000) [2] of pediatric and adult cardiovascular surgeries.
Might received his bachelor's degree in 2001 and PhD in 2007 from Georgia Tech, both in computer science.In 2008, he joined the faculty at the University of Utah, where he worked as a professor of computer science and pharmaceutical chemistry until 2017, when he moved to Birmingham, Alabama. [1]
