Route 54 (known locally as 12th Street for much of its length) is a state highway located in Atlantic County in New Jersey, United States.It is considered to be a southern extension of U.S. Route 206 (US 206), running 11.86 mi (19.09 km) from an intersection with US 206 and US 30 in Hammonton south to an intersection with US 40 in Buena Vista Township.
There are ten Interstate Highways in New Jersey, including four primary routes and six auxiliary routes. The longest of these is Interstate 95 (I-95), which runs for 89.22 miles (143.59 km) from Florence Township to Fort Lee .

U.S. Route 206 (US 206) is a 130.2-mile-long (209.5 km) north–south U.S. highway in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, United States.Only about a 1 ⁄ 2 mile (0.80 km) of its length is in Pennsylvania; the Milford–Montague Toll Bridge carries it over the Delaware River into New Jersey, where it connects to the remainder of the route.
The new numbers followed a general geographical pattern from north to south - 1–12 in northern New Jersey, 21-28 roughly radiating from Newark, 29-37 from Trenton, 38-47 from Camden, and 48–50 in southern New Jersey. Every state highway, even those forming parts of U.S. Routes, was assigned a number.
