Before the Battle of Fredericksburg on 13 December 1862, the Texas Brigade reorganized so that it consisted of the 1st, 4th, and 5th Texas, and the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiments. At the same time, Hood's division expanded in size from two to four brigades. The brigade was lightly engaged at Fredericksburg, losing only one killed and four wounded.
The brigade suffered its most severe casualties in December at the Battle of Fredericksburg where its fighting force was reduced from over 1600 to 1036. The brigade was involved in the northern battleground at Fredericksburg where they assaulted the sunken road in front of Marye's Heights.
