Rickshaw painting (Bengali: রিকশাচিত্র) is a form of neo-romanticism emerging in Bangladesh. The art in question consists of oil paintings on the rear of the canvas roof of rickshaws , done by local street artists, who also paint the various landscapes, portraits and personal statements of the driver.
On 6 December 2023, UNESCO announced the addition of Dhaka's rickshaws and their associated artwork to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Nobo Kumar was born in Shakhari Bazar, [1] a place in the old town of capital city Dhaka. He started by painting banner for cinema halls along with his father in late 70s Dhaka. [2] Later, his neighbor introduced him to rickshaw painting. Nobo Kumar dropped out of school when he was in grade six.

In the 17th century, the Shankharis (conch shell workers) were reportedly brought to Dhaka by the Mughal emperor, who allotted them this area for settlement; it later became known as Shankhari Bazaar. Shankhari Bazaar is a long narrow street lined by brick buildings of some antiquity.
