Santa Rosa is a city in and the county seat of Guadalupe County, New Mexico, United States. [4] The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census . [ 5 ] It lies between Albuquerque and Tucumcari , situated on the Pecos River at the intersection of Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 54 and 84 .

Santa Rosa Route 66 Airport covers an area of 401 acres (162 ha) at an elevation of 4,791 feet (1,460 m) above mean sea level. It has two asphalt paved runways : 1/19 is 5,013 by 75 feet (1,528 x 23 m) and 8/26 is 4,294 by 60 feet (1,309 x 18 m).
US 84 was first extended west into New Mexico in 1936 at Texico. In 1937, the route was extended further to Santa Fe, and in 1938, the route was extended further to Cortez, Colorado. However, this extension did not last long, because the highway was truncated back to Santa Fe. The current route for US 84 was created in 1941. [3]
East of Pie Town, the road crosses the Continental Divide at an elevation of 7,796 feet (2,376 m). [3] US 60 eastbound at the junction with NM 603 in Pie Town. Between the divide and Datil, US 60 cuts through Cibola National Forest and the Datil Mountains. In Datil, US 60 serves as the eastern terminus of New Mexico State Road 12 (NM 12).

The highway runs for 356.176 miles (573.210 km) in New Mexico. Nationally an east–west route but is signed as a north–south route through the state.
The county was created from the southern portion of San Miguel County February 26, 1891, by an act of the New Mexico Territorial Legislature. The original county seat was Puerto De Luna , but was moved north to Santa Rosa in 1903.
