Owensville was established in 1817 [4] [5] by Phillip Briscoe, when he filed the town plat consisting of 52 parcels and five out-parcels. A fire in 1876 destroyed many of the wood framed businesses on the eastern side of the town square. It was not until 1881 that Owensville incorporated. [6]

Beech Creek Township is one of fifteen townships in Greene County, Indiana, USA. As of the 2020 census , its population was 2,385, [ 1 ] down from 2,595 at 2010. [ 2 ]
Owensville is a fourth-class municipality incorporated under Missouri law. Owensville's government is organized under a Mayor and a four-member City Council. The council is elected from two wards on an alternating basis. The mayor is elected at-large for a two-year term.
