Albert Boscov died from pancreatic cancer on February 10, 2017, at the age of eighty-seven. [18] The chain is now headed by his nephew, Jim Boscov. [2]Boscov's continuing success makes it regarded as somewhat of an "outlier" because many department store retailers had begun pulling back to a degree on brick-and-mortar formats.
Boscov's wing of the Neshaminy Mall Neshaminy Mall is a 1,025,297-square-foot (95,253 m 2 ) shopping mall located at U.S. Route 1 and Bristol Road in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania . [ 3 ] The mall was opened in 1968 and was the sixth interior mall constructed in Greater Philadelphia.
The mall features Boscov's, Dick's Sporting Goods, JCPenney, Rural King, and a U-Haul storage center. It is vastly considered by locals to be a dead mall , with many residents opting for the Ross Park Mall in Ross Township or The Mall at Robinson in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania .
The mall opened with anchors Boscov's, McCrory, and Woolco. [4] [14] Gee Bee opened at the mall in 1983 and was later replaced by Value City in 1993. [15] [16] [17] Boscov's outside tent collapsed due to inclement weather in July 1986, with only light injuries occurring. [18] In 1995, the Boscov's store was heavily reconstructed. [19]
In January 2002, Boscov's purchased the Strawbridge's store, originally a Wanamaker's until 1995 and later Hecht's until 1996, at Berkshire Mall; the Boscov's store at Berkshire Mall opened in August 2002. [12] The Boscov's store at Berkshire Mall replaced the Boscov's West store in Sinking Spring, which opened in November 1962. [12] [13]
Sears closed in March 2017. [30] [31] [32] Justice closed in April, while Cricket Wireless opened in June 2017. [33] [34] All In Adventures and Stadium Studio opened in 2017, while Crazy 8, Subway, and TCBY closed. [35] The Bon-Ton closed in late April 2018, leaving Boscov's as the mall's only remaining anchor.
Boscov set his sights again on Monmouth Mall, which had been a successful store for Boscov's, and it reopened in 2011. He died in 2017 at age 87 after battling cancer .
