"Since You Been Gone" is a song written by former Argent guitarist Russ Ballard and first released on his 1976 album Winning. It was covered by Rainbow in 1979 and released as a single from their album Down to Earth .
Ballard left Argent in 1974 and pursued a solo and songwriting career. He wrote such hits as Three Dog Night's "Liar" [1] (originally recorded by Argent), Hot Chocolate's 1977 UK chart topper "So You Win Again", [1] [2] and Rainbow's 1979 hit "Since You Been Gone".
Head East (also known as The Roadsign Album) is the fourth studio album by the American hard rock band Head East.Released by A&M Records in February 1978, it was the group's fourth album to crack the Billboard 200, peaking at #78.
"Bad Girl", an outtake from the album sessions, was used as the B-side to the "Since You Been Gone" single. Similarly, "Weiss Heim", an instrumental recorded in Copenhagen in January 1980, was the B-side to "All Night Long". A remastered CD reissue was released in May 1999, with packaging duplicating the original vinyl.
The Russ Ballard song "Liar", on Argent's first album, became a hit for Three Dog Night in 1971 [11] and was also released as a single, ten years later, by Graham Bonnet (former Rainbow vocalist, who sang the vocal on "Since You Been Gone"), taken from his debut album Line-Up.

However, their fourth album simply titled Head East (1978) produced another hit with the band's cover of former Argent singer Russ Ballard's "Since You Been Gone", [2] which peaked at number 46.
