Kickboxer is a 1989 American martial arts film directed by David Worth and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.Former world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio is also featured. The plot revolves around Kurt Sloane (Van Damme) seeking revenge on the fearsome kickboxing champion Tong Po (Michel Qissi) who paralyzed his brother Eric Sloane (Dennis Alexio).
The film pioneered the martial arts film genre, and was the first kung fu action film ever created. The film is based on the popular Chinese novel "The Romance of the Red Lotus Temple", which is set in the Qing Dynasty and tells the story of a group of martial artists who band together to defend their temple from raiders.

Kickboxer 2 (stylized on-screen as Kickboxer 2: The Road Back) is a 1991 American martial arts film directed by Albert Pyun and written by David S. Goyer.The film is the second entry into the Kickboxer film series, and stars Sasha Mitchell in the role of David Sloan (unlike Sloane in the first film), the brother of Kickboxer ' s lead character Kurt, portrayed by Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The film has spawned three sequels: Best of the Best II (1993), Best of the Best 3: No Turning Back (1995), and Best of the Best 4: Without Warning (1998). Phillip Rhee portrays Tommy Lee in all four films, produced all of them, directed the third and fourth films, and co-wrote the first and fourth films.
