John Wesley Harding is the eighth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on December 27, 1967, by Columbia Records.Produced by Bob Johnston, the album marked Dylan's return to semi-acoustic instrumentation and folk-influenced songwriting after three albums of lyrically abstract, blues-indebted rock music.
The album included a cover of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", a stage version which "directly inspired Hendrix's arrangement of the song". [3] In 1968 they performed "We Can Help You" on Top of the Pops ; this was at No 26 in the UK chart but the pressing plant went on strike, so they could not capitalise on the exposure.
"In 1974, Dylan recorded and released a studio version of the song on Before the Flood concert which Larry Starr has called Dylan's up-tempo version of the song after listening favorably to the Hendrix version. A third version of the song is identified by Starr as being released on the MTV Unplugged concert recording released in 1995"
