1995 Maxima SE (222890 + miles) Ok where to start. I bought the car about a month ago (taxes) as is. I knew it had a few issues like needs new tires, oil check stuff like that BUT when I start the car in the cold i have to give it a llittle gas to get the the engine running.
Don't know if you are still looking for reliability information on the Maxima but here goes. My 2000 Nissan Maxima (bought new) has 211,000 miles on it and so far, I have only had to replace an O2 sensor twice. That's it. It's the most amazing car ever.
Consumer Reports rates the Maxima’s reliability 39 points higher than the Regal Sportback. J.D. Power and Associates rated the Maxima first among large cars in their 2020 Initial Quality Study. The Regal Sportback isn’t in the top three in its category.
The obvious differences are: Maxima: Front wheel drive, slightly less horsepower, CVT, much roomier interior & trunk, shorter warranty (3/36). G37: Smaller (interior is much smaller), rear wheel drive (or all-wheel if you go to the 37x), 7 speed automatic trans, stiffer ride (I prefer it, some don't), 4/60 warranty.
Well, my cube has 4600 miles on it, so as far as reliability is concerned I cannot say. All I know is that so far there are zero problems. However, I am surprised no-one has brought this up yet, but Nissan has just extended the warranty on ALL CVT transmissions from 2003 onwards. The new warranty is 5years/120,000 miles.

Most of Nissan's problematic vehicles (Titan, Quest, Armada, QX56) are built in Canton, Mississippi, but there are other Nissan models as well (Maxima, Altima, Sentra, Murano, Frontier, 350Z, etc.) seeing decline in reliability as well. The overall reliability grade mark for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles this year for 2007 is a D (below-average).
