In 1997, Jackson & Perkins began internet sales of roses. What once was Bear Creek Gardens became Jackson & Perkins Wholesale. Over 300,000 seedlings are grown and evaluated every year at the research facility outside Somis, California. Jackson & Perkins wholesale (JPW) was created to sell to local garden centers as well as mass retailers.
In 1938, W. Ray Hastings, creator of "All-America Rose Selections", approached Charles Perkins, president of the Jackson & Perkins company with an idea for a rose testing program. Rosa 'Gene Boerner' was bred by American hybridizer, Eugene Boerner, director of research at Jackson & Perkins. The new rose was introduced after Boerner's death (September 5, 1966) and released in honor of his work. The stock parents are the floribunda roses, 'Bridal Pink' and 'Matador'. [2]
