KSUG is a radio station licensed to Heber Springs, Arkansas, broadcasting on 101.9 MHz FM, which signed on in May 2016. Owned by Red River Radio, [2] the station airs a classic hits format, with weekday mornings hosted locally by station co-owner, Ali King. [3]
Construction of the dam began in March 1959 and was completed in December 1962. The lake serves the Heber Springs area flood control, and is a site for recreation and power generation. When construction began on the dam in 1956, hundreds of workers showed up looking for work.
The Little Red River was the home of the world-record brown trout (40 pounds 4 ounces (18.3 kg)) from 1992 until 2009. [citation needed] Because cold water flows from beneath the dam, many native warm-water fish are no longer plentiful.
The Red River Gorge is also a world-renowned rock climbing destination. A 2021 study estimated that climbers spend nearly $8.7 million annually in the five counties around the gorge.
Heber Springs is located near the center of Cleburne County. Arkansas Highway 5 bypasses the center of the city to the east, leading north 40 miles (64 km) to Mountain View and south 62 miles (100 km) to Little Rock (via U.S. Route 67 ).
The county seat and most populous city is Heber Springs. [2] The county was formed on February 20, 1883, as the last of Arkansas's 75 counties to be formed. It is named for Confederate Major-General Patrick Cleburne. [3] Cleburne is an alcohol prohibition or dry county.
