The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) program, established in 1972, is a national survey of a representative sample of households in the United States which covers the frequency of crime victimization and the characteristics and consequences of victimization.
The NCVS yields data on individual victims, offenders, and incidents. The survey is designed to represent nationwide levels of crime, but cannot provide crime estimates for cities or states [ 8 ] . Surveys such as these also obtain information that has not been reported to authorities and also preserves anonymity, eliciting more responses [ 8 ] .
