Benedictine Military School (also referred to as Benedictine or BC) is a Catholic military high school for boys located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1902 by the Benedictine monks of Savannah Priory , which still operates the school under the auspices of the Diocese of Savannah .
Students at these academies are organized as cadets, and graduate with appropriate licenses from the U.S. Coast Guard and/or the U.S. Merchant Marine.While not immediately offered a commission as an officer within a service, cadets do have the opportunity to participate in commissioning programs like the Strategic Sealift Officer Program (Navy) and Maritime Academy Graduate (Coast Guard).
[4] [5] Riverside had a Winter campus in Hollywood, Florida, which briefly was used as a Naval Air Gunners School during WWII, [6] from 1931 until 1984, when it was sold. The Gainesville campus underwent renovations from 1997 until 2004, adding a new barracks building, academics building, gymnasium, and a library and performing arts center.
Principal Major George Butler described the school in 1927 as "second to none in the South in terms of facility." [3] The 1926 building was designed in Gothic-style architecture. Up until the 1950s, ARC was for white males only. The 1951–1957 Richmond Academy boys' baseball team was ranked as one of the top 10 Georgia state sports dynasties. [4]

The name of the school was changed to Georgia Military College in 1900. Legislative acts of 1920 and 1922 severed the relationship with the University of Georgia and gave the local board total power over the operations of the school. In 1922 the method of electing members of the board of trustees and filling vacancies on the board was changed.
