Acme Brick Company is an American manufacturer and distributor of brick and masonry-related construction products and materials.Founder George E. Bennett (October 6, 1852 – July 3, 1907), chartered the company as the Acme Pressed Brick Company on April 17 1891, in Alton, Illinois, [1] although the company's physical location has always been in Texas.

[5] To accommodate for the expanding business after the turn of the 20th century, the Toof Building was planned by architect G. M. Shaw to serve as the new production and administrative site for the company in downtown Memphis.
The office building for the Dermon Company was constructed in 1925 and designed by the prominent Memphis architects, Charles O. Pfeil (1871–1927) and George Awsumb (1880–1959). Before his association with Awsumb in 1919, Pfeil was in partnership with George M. Shaw (1870–1919).
