Riviera Beach was founded in 1907 by Minnesota-developer Theodore Koch, who purchased land along Baffin Bay and built a resort community named Riviera Beach. It is an incipient structure that diminishes in degree of development northwestward, bifurcates at the head of Baffin Bay and disappears into the Arctic Archipelago.
Nares Strait (Danish: Nares Strædet; French: Détroit de Nares) is a waterway between Ellesmere Island and Greenland that connects the northern part of Baffin Bay in the Atlantic Ocean with the Lincoln Sea in the Arctic Ocean. From south to north, the strait includes Smith Sound, Kane Basin, Kennedy Channel, Hall Basin and Robeson Channel.

The Remote Peninsula extends northwards into the Baffin Bay from the island's mainland. It is bounded by Gibbs Fiord and the Stewart Valley in the east, the Baffin Bay in the north, Sam Ford Fiord in the east, and in the south by Walker Arm, the latter fjord's offshoot.
